New to Church?

What is church?

The word, “church,” has many connotations. For some people the word conjures up the image of a building with authoritative and traditional teachings. For others, the church may seem to be an irrelevant organization with little bearing on the modern world. Still others may simple view the church as one of many social organizations in the world. Simply put, the church is a community of people who come together to worship God and share his many blessings with others.

What can I expect?

There is little that separates Good News church from other churches that you may have visited. As you enter the church, you will be greeted by one of ushers and given a bulletin that presents the order of our service. The first part of the service will be filled with singing and prayers (approximately 20 minutes). The second part of the service will have a teaching on a text from the Bible (about 20-25 minutes). At the conclusion of the service, we have a time of socializing over a meal in the dinning hall.

Who will be present?

People from all over the country and world will be your neighbors – one of the great perks of being in city like New York. We also have people from all occupations such as education, law, finance, and fashion, to name a few.  Moreover, you will meet people who are on different stages in their relationship to Christianity. Some are just curious, others have grown up in the church, most fall somewhere in between.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you like, you can bring a Bible, but the text is printed in the bulletin. So, there is nothing that you need to bring.

What do people wear?

There is no dress code. The majority of the people dress casually; a few dress up.  In short, you will blend in whatever you wear.
