Good News Church New York City
building a Church that loves the City and a City that loves Jesus Christ.
Welcoming Ministry
The welcoming committee seeks to show the love of God to those who are new and old at GNC. Specifically, the committee helps to integrate and welcome newcomers into GNC and to enhance fellowship with one another.

interview: ling, co leader
How many people are in your ministry?
12 People Strong
What type of person would be a good fit?
One who likes people/food/serving the church
Why do you find yourself in this ministry?
What can I do for the church, not what can the church do for me. I love this concept: it humbles you and establishes a grounding for love and servanthood for the church. It also has allowed me to serve the church from behind the scenes and to encourage people at GNC to facilitate love and friendship with one another.
Favorite memory/aspect serving in this capacity?
The favorite memory reoccurs almost every week: when I see newcomers staying after service to fellowship with us and then returning again for more community. Also going grocery shopping and inviting people outside of welcoming to join in on the fun. I really have such a great time in knowing that we are created a culture where people can experience the love of God.

interview: moses, co-lead
how many members are you currently?
7 fantastic ushers
what are your favorite memories w/this ministry?
For my first day of ushering, one of the leaders told me I had to get dressed up in formal attire to do offering—including a bow tie. Being the newbie, I naively (and foolishly) believed her. Suffice it say, I was the most over dressed usher at church that Sunday, possibly in the history of GNC (No, I didn’t rock the bow tie, I couldn’t find one in time). They all had a good laugh at my expense
what kind of person would be good for this ministry?
Anyone with a smile and the coordination to hand a bulletin while saying “Hello”. Or, anyone with a heart to welcome and eagerness to meet people at GNC. The ushering ministry is also perfect for those with an unpredictable or busy schedule. The time commitment each Sunday is minimal. Ushers can expect to serve 1-2 times a month under the current rotation schedule.
why did you join this ministry?
Interestingly enough, I joined because I wanted to challenge myself to be more open in meeting new people. I also wanted to serve at GNC, but didn’t have a lot of time available every week.
